More About GROUP RATES & Rooms Booked “Around the Block”
We urge you to book your rooms through the RollerCon Group Rate. The group rate benefits all convention goers because the number of group room nights we book is the primary unit of measurement the hotel uses to determine what benefits our event will receive – benefits like 24 hour pool, convention space and amenities, the number of staff rooms they’ll allow us, the rates of guest rooms (they will give us cheaper rates if we can fill the hotel), the sweetness of the suites we can book, the hotel’s tolerance for late night parties & drunken shenanigans and a lot more that directly affects YOU. If you book through Travelocity or another service, your room is considered “booked around the block” and you don’t count to the hotel when we’re negotiating all that fun – and worse, when the accounting is done and we’re working on the next contract. More specifically, if you book around the block, you hate 24 hour pool. This is the reason MOST conventions are a lot more expensive and INCLUDE the room – that prevents conventioneers from booking outside the group rate.
Being part of our group also benefits YOU very specifically, as well. In bad situations (like the Great Deep Cleaning Fee Incident of 2014) or even relatively minor problems with billing or reservations, being part of our block gives us leverage to help you fix problems you may have with the hotel. Everyone on our block that got that erroneous deep cleaning fee (and a grip of people that probably got it because they left their room disgusting) had it removed and some got a free room night to apologize for the hassle. Being on our room block also gives you benefits you may not otherwise have had with the hotel (in Riviera, our block had free and discounted resort fees and more). And in unusual cases, like 2015, it means that your reservation is included with the rest of RollerCon and will be moved to the new venue.
