This page last updated in August for RC26
Overview:
We differentiate between:
  • Challenges (30 minutes),
  • Bouts (1 hour).
  • Open scrimmage (no overall score; each jam is an island, the scrimmage goes on as long as it is scheduled). Scrimmage information can be found here.
OVERVIEW
RollerCon Bouts & Challenges are organized by captains, who create & manage the teams. Captains submit their game for scheduling in our submission queue google form. RollerCon staff verifies that the entries are valid, then schedules the games and notifies the captains. The captains then finish organizing the games through summer – by adding players to the roster, creating uniforms and organizing players. Captains are responsible for all communications with their teams. Then everyone shows up and plays in July.

General Info About RollerCon Games

  • Any scrimmage-safe MVP or Skater pass holder with validated insurance can skate or captain a Challenge. Off Skates passholders may captain (off skates), as well. We strongly encourage you to consider captaining, even if its your first year at RollerCon, no matter what your (scrimmage safe) skill level.
  • RollerCon games are open for viewing to all RollerCon passholders and RC passholders only. Your family and friends can get tickets to see your game! We call it an Off Skates Convention Pass. Only passholders can enter the facility. We recommend that you get them in advance when they are inexpensive. They are NOT cheap on site; we price them higher to intentionally discourage civilians who don’t understand our culture from coming in to gape at us.

CHALLENGES:

  1. Challenges are played by WFTDA, USARS & RDCL rules with officials self-staffed using our VORC system and managed by our Officiating Management.
      • FOR ANY OTHER RULESET, please email planning@rollercon.com BEFORE submitting your game on March 1st. Your email should include the rules (so they can be reviewed by our insurance and officiating management), a list of officiating positions and the (government) names of the officials who will fill the positions. At least 50% of these officials must have RollerCon passes and a VORC account at the time of review. Please do not submit multiple games; if scheduled, only one challenge slot will be considered. Your captains and HR will work with our Officiating Management to figure out all the other details.
  2. 30 min Challenges are scheduled in 45 minute slots. We are very aggressive about staying on schedule. We reserve the right to shorten games to make up time on the schedule.
  3. Everyone must be ready 10 minutes before your scheduled time! On track skater warm-ups are not guaranteed for Challenges, so arrive ready to play. No skater may join late.
  4. If the challenge starts late for any reason, the time is shaved off the end of that challenge. We always stick to our schedule.
  5. Challenge period clocks NEVER STOP.
  6. Teams may use one time out and one review, but that time comes out of their playtime. The last jam ends naturally, but no jam will start after the time slot ends.
  7. Skaters foul out after 4 penalties.
  8. Whether the rules allow for it or not, ties are possible at RollerCon; if the game clock ends with a tie score, there is no overtime; the game ends tied.

FULL LENGTH BOUTS

  1. Full length bouts are WFTDA regulation bouts played by WFTDA rules and procedures with the addition of 20-rosters unless planned by another ruleset in advance. These games are considered WFTDA regulation for the purposes of officiating & etc.
  2. All other relevant rules from the Challenge section above apply, especially the dire warnings about staying on schedule.

This is the RollerCon live game schedule. If you don’t see any entries, make sure the dates for RollerCon are showing by clicking the “look for more link” on the calendar.

HOW WILL I KNOW
… if my game got scheduled?
… if I got rostered?
  • Captains will receive two emails when their game is scheduled. Find out more on the Captain Info page
  • PLAYERS: If you’re a player hoping you made a roster, the answer is a little more complicated. More at the Player info page.

Things to know
  • The schedule is live in the app as it’s being scheduled. But the challenge schedule is NOT FINAL until we publish it and announce it. The entire schedule is tentative until we announce otherwise. Games sometimes get moved, though that is rare.
  • If you do get an email from google calendar with the game, it will be adjusted to your local time zone. Look it up in the app to see Vegas time.
  • We cannot hand out contact info or tell you if you’re on a roster. Sorry.
  • We don’t manage rosters in any way that affects players. We don’t tell them anyone can/can’t be on it, we don’t know or manage skill levels, we don’t know if a person on the vegan team secretly eats hot dogs. That is 100% captains.
GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!
